Birmingham Forward has a crucial role to
play in creating the right conditions for
economic growth Birmingham.

The professional, financial and business
service sector already employs well in
excess of 100,000 people in the Birmingham
area. We anticipate creating a further
50,000 jobs within this decade - but only if
we build the right conditions for growth.
Companies, employees and investors are
increasingly mobile. They have to be won
over to invest, to work, to do business -
and to stay in Birmingham.

Birmingham has taken huge strides over the
last 10 years. If it is to continue to
prosper and survive over the next decade,
then the city must constantly better its
offering. Birmingham must build the right:

Skills, education and inclusion – with
skilled people drawn from across
Birmingham’s many communities - equipped to
work in knowledge-based businesses
Transport and access - particularly public
transport and pedestrian access
Buildings and technology - landmark
buildings and world class IT infrastructure
Environment - a clean and safe city
Leisure and lifestyle - integrated city
living and even stronger leisure and
cultural facilities.
External awareness - promote Birmingham as
the largest concentration of world class
professional, financial and business service
excellence outside London
Successful Communities - release and realise
the potential of all the city's diverse
communities.

We must ensure that Birmingham Forward
remains focused and clear about how to
contribute towards achieving these
objectives. To do so, we identify a small
number of very specific campaigns each year,
because we can punch harder if we are more
targeted. It also helps people to grasp
clearly the issues we are tackling. Those
campaigns will be drawn from the themes
identified above.

We will continue to support the wider
promotion of Birmingham. We will also
increase our research base to build on our
position as the first port of call and the
most authoritative voice on all issues
relating to our sector.
